What to Expect at a Designer Event

A designer event, sometimes known by its US counterpart a trunk show is an event where one of our stockists borrows a collection of samples from us which they do not usually have in stock in store. They are usually a sneak peak of wedding gowns that haven’t yet been made available on the mass market and therefore are popular with fashion forward brides wanting the latest trends. They can however be full collections of dresses that the store in question does not stock for lack of space on the bridal showroom floor or because the shop chose not to stock them because they are more of a ‘wild card’ dress that wouldn’t be seen to be popular with brides in that area – trust them, the shops know what works well in their area!

Because of the above designer events can be very popular so you would be wise to book your appointment as soon as possible. You can make an appointment by clicking on the ‘Attend’ button on our events page, or by calling or emailing the store directly. It would be handy to ask the store how many people you can bring to your appointment as they may have lots of people booked in at once and will request you go alone to browse, you can always return with your wedding party for a second appointment. To find out about upcoming events in your area you can check our events page, our Facebook events or we post them to our Instagram stories on a Tuesday.

Why should you attend a trunk show? If there is a particular designer you keep coming across on Pinterest that you love this is an opportunity to narrow down your search and discuss in depth the designer with the bridal consultants. Attending a trunk show can have many benefits including a discount if you buy on the day. You can also get in touch ahead of time if there is a certain gown you were wanting to try on so the store can ensure that sample will be a part of the collection coming to the show.

Is there anything else I should know? Our sample sizes tend to be 10s, 12s and 14s, so be sure to get in touch with the store to check what will be available in your size.

Is there a difference between a sample sale and a designer event? Yes, a sample sale tends to be where older seasons’ samples are sold off. You will be buying a dress that has been on the hanger in store for brides to browse and try on, at a designer event or trunk show you try on the samples, but order a brand new dress to your measurements – meaning there will be a wait time of 12-16 weeks until it arrives.

Does this sound like something for you? Check out our designer events page to find your nearest show and book in!
