After postponing twice, watching two miserable weather dates passing us, we were delighted to get married on a WEDnesday with the sun shining; it felt like it was meant to be!
We got married at Cornhill Castle, we’d looked at venues around Glasgow and Edinburgh and as soon as we arrived at Cornhill we knew it was the one. The staff are incredible, and the venue is so beautiful.
We had met on a dating app and had our first date at Edinburgh Christmas Market. A little over 2 years alter, Jamie proposed during a lovely park date. We sat in the sun, enjoying the May sunshine and he surprised me with a ring! When we got home from the park, my parents and Jamie’s were there with champagne and balloons. Jamie is my best friend, and I can’t remember what life was like before him.
My engagement ring has a pearl and olive leaf detail, so we used that as an inspiration for the wedding. Our table numbers were photos of us at those ages, and our place cards were a mix of dinosaurs and music to combine our two loves! A friend read ‘A Lovely Love Story’ by Edward Monkton too. I really enjoyed the wedding planning, even with all the pandemic problems. The suppliers and venue were understanding and accommodating, and it was easy to reorganise.
I didn’t really know what kind of dress I wanted, I tried on lots of different styles and shapes to work out what I wanted, before settling on the Dafne _style 69501. I went to Angelique Lamont Bridal in Glasgow, and they happened to have a Ronald Joyce trunk show on. As soon as I saw Dafne on the hanger, I knew it was the one. The gorgeous detail on the bodice, the button detail and neckline, the Mikado silk… everything about it ticked the boxes for me. I got the feeling people tell you about; butterflies! Angelique Lamont is a wonderful shop, my mum had got her dress from them in 1985! It’s a bridal shop that’s stood the test of time.
Despite having to cut our numbers by 70 to 50 just a week before, the day went by smoothly with no hiccups. The week before was stressful, but the day itself was relaxed and fun. We were able to get married outdoors because the Scottish weather was on our side on the day. We had the full day, minus the meal, outside and danced our first dance on the helipad! The day was so relaxed, sitting in the sun and catching up with people we’ve not seen in ages. The day ended watching the sunset with sparklers, it was perfect. We didn’t have a reception, but we’ll have a big party next year to make up for it.
My advice for future brides is to enjoy every moment; it goes so fast! At the end of the day, all that matters is you are marrying the love of your life. Getting some time just the two of you is so important try and fit some in where you can. After the speeches, our wonderful photographer Corinne Moffat took us to have our couples photographs which meant Jamie was relaxed as he had done his speech! We’d also met her for a coffee a few days before so we felt we knew her really well and were relaxed. We’ve loved looking back over our videos and photographs, being able to relive such a magical day.
