Lauren and Shaun: Real Bride Story

Shaun and I met when I started working where he worked in 2008. It was my part-time job whilst at university, but we only saw each other every 6 weeks due to his shift. We didn’t get together until the end of 2012. I needed boxes for a project in my classroom and I knew he was the man to ask. To cut a long story short, we started dating soon after.

He proposed on holiday in July 2019 at Iguazu Falls on the Argentina/Brazil border which is just such an incredible sight of natural wonder! We nearly missed the flight there from Buenos Aires as we were at the wrong gate and our tickets didn’t work to get into the national park!

I had no idea what I was looking for when dress shopping and was very apprehensive about the whole experience, as I didn’t know what style would suit me. I thought I’d go for a boho style dress but ended up with the opposite!

I travelled over 200 miles to Avorio Bridal in Fochabers to try on my dress. As soon as the consultant Ashley brought the dress which was Ellie _style 69052 Ronald Joyce wedding dress into the changing room, I instantly loved it.

The champagne colour, the shape which fitted my curve perfectly, the scallop detail and gorgeous train. I loved the vintage look, and it was so different to any bridal dress I’ve ever seen before. The sequin detail and sparkle-embellished plunging open back was sophisticated and unique.

I felt like I was the only person in the world when I tried it on. Showing it to my family, they all knew it was ‘the one’. I felt it fitted the vibe of the venue perfectly. I wanted to let all the detail shine so kept my accessories simple. It’s currently hanging in the dress bag in my spare room, and I unzip it and smile every day.

We ended up having a very intermate wedding due to the pandemic as we didn’t want to wait. We wanted an outside wedding in a garden and even though it was forecast to rain I was determined. The hotel _ Kimpton Blythswood Sqaure Hotel phoned to suggest indoor ceremony, but I was adamant to stick to outdoors and be optimistic. Luckily on the day of the wedding it was overcast but dry. The outdoor ceremony was perfect and then the heavy rain came 10 mins after we finished. It almost felt like it so was meant to be outside.

My advice for future brides is too not stress. I think I was a pretty chilled bride, I decided in the last 2 weeks if I’d forgotten anything it can’t be that important. We didn’t do room/table décor, favours, personalised items, speeches, bride/groom gifts for each other and nobody noticed. Instead, we spent the budget on staying an extra night in the hotel to chill and use the spa.
