Dianne & Lubbert: Real Bride Story

We got married in our hometown, Urk in the Netherlands at "De Koningshof"

We met at church and while going out in the weekends. He proposed to me in Spain, at the 25th wedding jubilee of my parents. We were there with the whole family to celebrate so they were all witnesses. The last night, we had dinner in the backyard. Suddenly, Lubbert jumped into the pool with his clothes on _he is very funny and likes to joke around He shouted: "Dianne, if you want to marry me, jump into the pool!" I was all dressed up and had just put on my new white pants. So, I hesitated a little bit but then ran straight to the pool and jumped in. Then he got the ring and asked me to marry him in the pool, while my whole family stood around and with candles everywhere around the pool. I will always cherish that moment.

I didn’t really have a wedding theme in mind. I liked baby blue and pink, so hadsome baby blue and pink flowers in my bouquet. Also, guests could where baby blue outfits if they liked. Personally, I found all the planning very stressful because I’m a perfectionist! As for the venue and vibe I just wanted something classy and chilled. First, we married in church and then we had the party at a beautiful classy location in the Koningshof.

As for the dress, in the beginning, I wanted a bodycon dress with pearls, little stones and glamour all over the place. However, during fittings, I found that type of gown didn’t suit me very well, I didn’t have the "spark". So I visited 3 wedding boutiques and I think I tried on around 20 dresses before finding the one at "The Bruidstuin" in Elburg, The Netherlands. I picked my Ronald Joyce dress because of the simple and elegance look of it. I instantly loved it! I definitely would recommend the store. We were helped very well, and they have a lot of choice.

Thanks to my 2 brothers who helped plan my wedding everything ran very smoothly. I had a lot of help from friends and family for the decorations. My favourite bit of the wedding I think was the moment when we first saw each other. It was such a special moment, for the first time I saw Lubbert all suited up and he was a bit emotional when he saw me.

The weather was luckily better than expected. We had planned a BBQ around 6 o’clock outside, but according to the weather forecast, it would be rainy, cold and cloudy. However, it was 22 degrees and very sunny. Just perfect!

My top advice for future brides would be to plan way ahead and for all the control freaks amongst us: let it go! In the end, it will be an amazing day and everyone wants to help, so dare to ask for the help of your friends and family.
